Director & Producer
Praveen Arora, a writer, producer and director is passionately involved in film making for the
past 20 years. He was born in Sirsa, Haryana. He grew up in an open & liberal environment that
enabled him to see and observe life at close quarters. He graduated in Science from the D.N. College,
Hisar and subsequently did Post Graduation in English Literature from the Panjab University, Chandigarh,
followed by a Diploma in Journalism.
Assimilating the rich experiences of a semi-urban setting and his insatiable
quest to find solutions to the fundamental questions of human life led to the
flowering of his artistic potentials. He took to writing poetry, photography and
theatre early in his life.
He worked both as an Actor and Theatre Activist with SAHIL- a noted theatre group of Haryana and TEAM- a Delhi based theatre group. He has been passionately involved with photography, writing poetry and articles. His articles, poetries and photographs were regularly published in prominent newspapers, literary and other noted magazines. He started his career as a Journalist and in 1986 he shifted his base to Delhi. Since then he has held the following positions :
In Delhi, apart from doing his official job at Jamia, he actively pursued Theatre both as an Actor and Director and conducted many Theatre Workshops with community people and school children. He took to fulltime Filmmaking in 1990. Since then he has Produced and Directed 8 T.V. serials, 60 Documentaries, several T.V. Ads/ Commercials, Quickies and Short Spots. He considers films and television as a powerful media for reconstructing realities of life and to use them for combating the ills and contradictions that prevail in the society .
His Documentary Film titled PAAS JUNGLE DOOR JUNGLE on Kamaar Tribe of Chattisgarh produced and directed for the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India was nominated and show cased in the competition section of the 8th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF 2004) at Mumbai held between 3rd – 9th February 2004.
His 40-minutes Documentary KINNAUR KA KAAMRU- a Film on the ancient Village Kaamru in Himachal Pradesh produced & directed for the Department of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, GOI was nominated and show cased in the competition section of International Festival of Films on Tribal Art and Culture (IFFTAC) 2009 held at Bhopal between 19th – 21st June 2009.
Whether it is fiction or non- fiction, his work has been acclaimed by the critics and audiences both nationally as well as Internationally.
